HINDSIGHT IS CRYSTAL CLEAR

There are many dance teachers, but it takes real experience in the bridal industry for an instructor to best serve her couples. I've been there; I've seen it; I've learned! We will discuss those tricky little details that will prevent your first dance from turning into a disaster:

The length of your gown
What can you do if your dress is so long that your fiancé steps on it when you're dancing? I'll let you in on a little secret ...

The headpiece
Have you ever seen a tiara flop around like a bad toupeé when the bride gets dipped or a veil turn into a noose? This is not going to happen to you.

The style of your gown
Nothing is as frustrating as taking dance lessons and then finding out during your dance on your wedding day that you can't do the steps you were taught because the style of your wedding dress won't let you move. Now you know why I want a picture of your wedding dress!

Only the wise can dance the rhythm of life.

The shoes
Cinderella lost a slipper so her prince could find her, but you've already got your man. Let's make sure your shoes stay on during your dance. Click here for beautiful and comfortable wedding shoes.

The band, DJ and MC
Make sure your entertainer understands that your first dance is choreographed. Tell them, repeatedly. If you hire a DJ, he should play your song, or the medley created for you, from start to finish with no fading out. If you hire a band, they should follow the arrangement of your song without modifications. Give them a recording of your song to be certain they match it. Instruct the master of ceremonies not to invite others to join you during your dance or to talk while you're dancing. This dance is one that you invest time, money and effort to perfect. You cannot imagine the disappointment of having this moment forever lost because of your entertainer.

Cueing the master of ceremonies
The doors open and your MC introduces you to the world as the new Mr. and Mrs. As you make your way to the dance floor, when is the appropriate time for your first dance music to begin? The answer is "when you cue him." Only you know when you're ready to start your dance so be sure your entertainers don't throw you a curve ball.

The photographer and videographer
This detail is so important! I love hearing from my couples when they get their video and photos back, raving about how awesome they thought they looked and how they got a fantastic shot of their dramatic dips. The counterpart is hearing the disappointment because their photographer changed film during the dance and missed the best part, or the videographer zoomed in on their faces so they couldn't see their beautiful moves or he panned around the room to tape the guests and didn't capture their dance at all! Don't be disappointed. Make sure your vendors understand what you expect of them.

The wedding party
Your family and bridal party are lucky because they'll be nearest to you on the dance floor during your dance, but let's not deprive the rest of your guests from enjoying the show! Have your wedding party stand where they will not obstruct anyone's view. Flower girls and ring bearers are priceless little darlings who need to be gently secured by an adult. It's challenging enough to dance with your new spouse without having a 3 year old hanging onto your gown or pants leg. Cute, but not part of your routine.

Physical ability

Please don't make the mistake of thinking that you can't dance. I've been blessed to work with all types of special couples: heavy, skinny, tall, short, uncoordinated, paralyzed, amputees, and they all learned an exquisite first dance. There are no critics or judges ... only a room full of people who love you and a dance teacher who cares about you.

When to have your first dance
It's your wedding. Dance when you choose but take this advice from a woman who knows what it feels like to perform. The waiting is the worst even though you're excited about dancing. If you dance when you're introduced at your reception, you'll get it over with early and you'll set a wonderful, festive mood for the rest of your reception!

It's a beautiful sight to see good dancers doing simple steps.
It's a painful sight to see beginners doing complicated patterns.
